BY A STAFF REPORTER: Yemen's Houthi group said on Thursday its navy targeted an unidentified British merchant vessel in the Red Sea in response to Israel's bombing of Gaza.

Earlier on Thursday, the UK's Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) agency said an explosion was reported off the starboard side of a ship west of the Yemeni city of Hodeidah.

UKMTO said the ship and crew were reported to be safe. It's unclear if it was a Houthi target.

The Houthi military spokesman said in a statement that Houthi attacks on ships would continue until the aggression stopped and the blockade of the Gaza Strip was lifted.
