Kolkata: Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Kunal Ghosh has hit back at the Opposition for questioning West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s recent visit to Furfura Sharif in Hooghly for an Iftar party. Reacting to the criticism, Ghosh asserted that her visit was not linked to elections and accused Opposition leaders of making baseless claims.
"This is in no way related to the election. In response to an invitation, she visited. She had visited Furfura Sharif earlier also. It is a completely false allegation made by a mentally disturbed Opposition leader," Ghosh said.
Mamata Banerjee’s visit to Furfura Sharif, a significant religious and cultural site for Muslims in Bengal, had sparked political controversy, with rivals accusing her of engaging in appeasement politics ahead of the elections. However, the TMC has maintained that the visit was a routine engagement, reinforcing Banerjee’s long-standing outreach to various communities.
