By A Staff Reporter — Union Minister Pralhad Joshi has raised concerns over the impact of the Waqf Act on economically disadvantaged Muslims and farmers in Karnataka. Speaking about recent incidents in Vijaypura, Joshi criticized the existing Waqf Act provisions, stating that they are adversely affecting the livelihood of poor Muslims and farmers in the region.
“What has happened in Vijaypura cannot be accepted,” said Joshi, referring to widespread notices received by local farmers related to land issues under the Waqf Act. He expressed concern that these provisions have contributed to the struggles of poor Muslims across Karnataka, who find themselves entangled in legal complications over land ownership.
Directly addressing Congress leader Zameer Ahmed Khan, Joshi argued that Khan’s actions show a greater focus on securing votes rather than addressing the concerns of affected farmers. “Zameer Ahmed Khan is not bothered about the farmers; he is bothered about his votes,” he remarked.
Joshi’s comments reflect a broader discussion on the need to review the Waqf Act to ensure it does not impede the welfare of vulnerable communities, particularly in Karnataka’s rural areas. The Union Minister called for the changes that would better support the state’s farmers and economically disadvantaged populations.
