BY A STAFF REPORTER: Prior to the 2024–25 season, Indian forward Lallianzuala Chhangte has been named the new captain of Mumbai City FC. Rahul Bheke, who left to rejoin Bengaluru FC of the Indian Super League (ISL), will be replaced as the team's captain by Chhangte. The previous season, Bheke guided Mumbai City to the ISL Cup victory.

Mumbai City renewed his contract earlier in June of this year, to the end of the 2026–2027 campaign.

He once said that,  "I had no hesitation in staying on with Mumbai City FC for the next few seasons. Both the club's family and its support base are enormous. We have been able to return that love with great football and trophies, and for that I am thankful to God. In his contract renewal statement, Chhangte stated, "I hope to be the best version of myself every day for my Mumbai City FC family. There are many more stories to tell."

Chhangte has continuously produced outstanding performances since joining the Islanders in January 2022, racking up 29 goals and 16 assists in 79 games. He repeated the success of his previous performance in the 2023–24 ISL season, scoring 16 goals (10 goals and 6 assists). On September 13, Mumbai City FC will play their ISL opener at Salt Lake Stadium in Kolkata against Mohun Bagan Super Giant.
