By a staff reporter: At 283.47 meters, Matt Stutzman holds the Guinness World Record for the longest and most precise archery shot. In addition, despite lacking arms, he won a silver medal in a paralympic sport that calls for unwavering concentration and a firm hand.
Stutzman was despondent in 2009 because he was unable to support his family and his wife was forced to work two jobs to make ends meet. At this point in his life, Stutzman made the decision to throw out all the justifications and pursue his dreams. You'll do anything to support your family when you're in a dire situation. Stutzman tells how he got his start in archery, saying, "I just saw a bow and (said) that's what I want to do, I'm going to go out, going to harvest an animal, putting it in the freezer and have food."
However, following seven years of professional competition, Stutzman now possesses a refined technique. Until he chooses to release the string for the target, he keeps the bow in his right foot-hold while holding the string with his body. However, it was not an easy task for him.
"I asked the woman where the other armless archers were at my first tournament, and she said, 'What do you mean?'" "I was unaware that I was the only one who had done it," he says.
