BY A STAFF REPORTER: Burkina Faso's military says 31 soldiers and three members of the Homeland Defense Volunteers (VDP) were killed in an attack on a supply convoy in Bam province in the country's central-northern region.
Burkina Faso has been fighting Islamist militants operating in the north since 2015, some linked to al Qaeda and the Islamic State.
The army said there were heavy casualties in the clashes and about 20 injured had been evacuated to health facilities. More than 40 attackers were killed.
