New Delhi: External Affairs Minister (EAM) Dr. S. Jaishankar is set to travel to Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, from 8-9 September 2024, to participate in the inaugural India–Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Foreign Ministers' Meeting. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) announced that this marks a significant step in strengthening India's ties with the Gulf region.
The visit will not only focus on the multilateral meeting but also include bilateral discussions with Foreign Ministers from the GCC member countries. These talks are expected to address key areas of cooperation, including trade, energy security, and regional stability.
The GCC, a political and economic alliance of six Middle Eastern countries—Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE—plays a vital role in India’s diplomatic and economic outreach. India has deep economic and expatriate ties with the region, with millions of Indian citizens living and working in GCC countries.
The meeting in Riyadh is expected to enhance cooperation on shared interests, with a focus on expanding trade relations and enhancing energy partnerships. Dr. Jaishankar's visit reaffirms India's commitment to strengthening its relationship with the Gulf nations.
