By A Staff Reporter: The polling was by and large peaceful and Awami League led by Sheikh Hasina moved towards a thumping majority in the general elections in Bangladesh. Terming it as a free and fair polls with stray incidents, home minister Asaduzzaman Khan congratulated the people of the country for turning up in large numbers to exercise their franchise. “I also thank our neighbouring countries including India for supporting Bangladesh and helping us in conducting the polls,” he said. Khan mentioned that security forces manned sensitive areas and ensured that polling was free and fair. “A few persons were arrested for indulging in nefarious activities. Sheikh Hasina will be elected for a record fourth time as the Prime Minister of Bangladesh. The country is on a path of development and it will continue,” he said.
