Mumbai: In a significant development for global cancer care, Rafael Mariano Grossi, Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), has lauded India’s commitment to advancing medical technology through nuclear energy. Speaking in Mumbai, Grossi highlighted the importance of the newly signed agreement between the IAEA, Tata Medical Centre, and India’s Department of Atomic Energy.

“The document we signed today is a reflection of the desire and decision by the Tata Medical Centre and the Department of Atomic Energy of India to collaborate with the IAEA in healthcare. We have worked together before, but with the increasing global demand for cancer care, we are now focusing on selecting partners of excellence—institutions that can contribute significantly to the international community,” Grossi stated.

India has been a key player in the use of nuclear technology for medical applications, particularly in cancer diagnosis and treatment. The collaboration with the IAEA is expected to enhance India's contributions to global healthcare, facilitating advanced research and the sharing of medical expertise.

The agreement is part of broader international efforts to leverage nuclear technology for medical advancements, particularly in radiation therapy and diagnostic imaging. With India’s growing medical infrastructure and research capabilities, the partnership is set to play a vital role in addressing cancer care challenges worldwide.
