Lisbon: In a significant diplomatic milestone, President Droupadi Murmu met with her Portuguese counterpart, President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, during her state visit to Portugal, commemorating 50 years of formal diplomatic ties between India and Portugal.

Accompanied by a high-level delegation including Union Ministers, President Murmu’s visit reflects New Delhi’s commitment to deepening its relationship with Portugal in areas such as trade, technology, education, and cultural exchange.

The two leaders held wide-ranging discussions, focusing on expanding bilateral cooperation in emerging technologies, renewable energy, startups, and digital innovation. Both sides reaffirmed their shared democratic values and historical links, dating back to centuries of maritime and cultural exchanges.

“Marking 50 years of our diplomatic journey with Portugal is both a celebration and a commitment,” President Murmu said. “We look forward to greater collaboration that benefits both our peoples.”
