Delhi: Speaking at the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) India Mediterranean Business Conclave, External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar discussed the potential of a digital corridor linking India and the Mediterranean. He highlighted that with the increasing demand for secure and fast digital transactions, the corridor would become as critical as traditional land and sea routes.
Dr. Jaishankar stated, "India is well-positioned to contribute to key digital infrastructure, including undersea data cables and advanced telecommunications networks." He also emphasized India's role in building a robust digital payment ecosystem.
Addressing concerns stemming from the ongoing conflict in West Asia, Jaishankar pointed out that disruptions in key shipping routes have caused increased shipping costs and rerouted trade flows. "These disruptions," he said, "strengthen the case for derisking."
He further stressed that the need for connectivity would only grow as India, Europe, and the Middle East enhance their interactions, making a strong case for deeper collaboration on digital and trade infrastructure.
