Breaking: Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny dies in prison

By A STAFF REPORTER: Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny has died in prison. He was 47 years old. He appears to have survived several poisoning attempts after years of fighting government corruption and President Vladimir Putin's government, Russia's prison service said Friday.

Navalny was poisoned with a military nerve agent during a business trip to Russia in 2020. An attempt on his life that he directly blamed on Putin. His last years were spent behind bars as the Russian leader reshaped the country to rally behind his war in Ukraine. Navalny's death comes as the Kremlin prepares to achieve another victory for Putin in elections in March.
