BY A STAFF REPORTER: At least three Israeli soldiers have been killed and four wounded in a rare exchange of fire near the Egyptian border. On Saturday, shelling took place around the Nitjana/Al-Awza border crossing between Israel and Egypt, which is about 40 kilometers southeast of Israel's border with Egypt and the Gaza Strip. It is used to import goods from Egypt designated for Israel or the Gaza Strip.
The Israeli military said the first shots fired saturday morning. A third Israeli soldier was killed in the second border clash. The Israeli military announced that it had killed the gunman in a second exchange of fire, who was wearing an Egyptian border guard uniform and infiltrated the border.
