BY A STAFF REPORTER: A bridge connecting ukraine's southern Kharsan region with the Crimean peninsula has become a target of Ukrainian shelling overnight, a Russian-backed official said on Thursday.
Vladimir Saldo, the Moscow-established head of the occupied Kherson region, said Kiev's forces had carried out "barbaric shelling of civilian installations" including a bridge near the village of Chonhar.
"The surface of the bridge was damaged, but there were no casualties, and traffic between Kherson and Crimea has been temporarily changed," Saldo said. '
Russia's Crimean head, Sergei Aksenov, said bomb experts were evaluating the type of ammunition used in the attack.
"The long-range Storm Shadow cruise missile that the UK has given to Ukraine has been used," Saldo said. '
There are three vehicle crossing points connecting Kharsan and Crimea, which were connected by Russia in 2014 in violation of international law.
