New Delhi | The US Embassy in India has canceled more than 2,000 visa applications, citing fraud, and suspended the scheduling privileges of the associated accounts. The move comes as part of the embassy’s ongoing efforts to curb fraudulent activities in the visa appointment system.
Christopher Elms, spokesperson for the US Embassy in Delhi, confirmed the action, stating, “The US Mission to India's consular team identified bad actors who made about 2,000 visa appointments that violated our scheduling policies. Effective immediately, we are canceling those appointments and suspending the associated accounts' scheduling privileges. We will continue our anti-fraud efforts. We have zero tolerance for fraud.”
The embassy has been tightening measures against appointment manipulation, as fraudulent bookings often delay genuine applicants seeking visas for travel, work, and education. The crackdown highlights the US government's commitment to maintaining the integrity of its visa processing system while ensuring fair access for legitimate applicants.
Officials have urged visa seekers to follow official procedures and avoid unauthorized agents or intermediaries who may engage in fraudulent practices. Further actions against similar violations are expected as part of the embassy’s continued vigilance.
