New Delhi: In a major healthcare boost, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has announced free medical treatment up to ₹10 lakh for eligible residents under the Ayushman Yojana. Presenting the budget, she allocated ₹2144 crore to the scheme, enhancing the existing ₹5 lakh coverage provided by the central government by adding an additional ₹5 lakh from the Delhi government.

This move is expected to provide critical financial relief to thousands of families struggling with medical expenses. “Healthcare should never be a privilege, but a right. By doubling the coverage, we are ensuring that no one is deprived of life-saving treatment due to financial constraints,” CM Gupta stated in her speech.

The Ayushman Yojana, originally a central government initiative, covers a wide range of medical treatments, including surgeries, hospitalization, and specialized care. With this new Delhi government contribution, beneficiaries will now have ₹10 lakh coverage for medical expenses.

Apart from this, the Delhi budget also includes allocations for strengthening healthcare infrastructure, ensuring better facilities in government hospitals, and expanding the availability of essential medicines.

Opposition leaders have welcomed the decision but questioned its financial feasibility. However, BJP leaders have hailed it as a historic move toward universal healthcare. The implementation details of the enhanced scheme will be announced soon.
