New Delhi: AIIMS-Delhi Director Dr. M Srinivas addressed concerns regarding the patient load at AIIMS-Delhi, which has remained high despite the establishment of several regional AIIMS(All India Institute of Medical Sciences) across the country. Speaking at an event on Parliament Street, Dr. Srinivas explained that while the first six AIIMS have made significant progress, most regional centers still need time to reach the level of AIIMS-Delhi.
"The first six AIIMS are doing extremely well and have reached almost the level of AIIMS-Delhi. The issue is that there is always a supply and demand mismatch, and other centers will take time to reach the level of AIIMS-Delhi," Dr. Srinivas stated.
He highlighted that the original idea behind setting up additional AIIMS was to provide the same level of speciality and superspeciality treatment found at AIIMS-Delhi. However, achieving this goal has been challenging for many of the newer centers.
"You have to understand that whatever we are today is because of the seven decades of our good work. Getting the tag of Institute of National Importance and Centre of Excellence takes time," Dr. Srinivas added, underscoring the legacy and sustained effort required to build an institution of AIIMS-Delhi's stature.
His remarks reflect the ongoing efforts to elevate the standards of regional AIIMS centers, while acknowledging that matching AIIMS-Delhi’s excellence is a gradual process.
