GUWAHATI — Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has voiced strong support for Prime Minister Narendra Modi's call for stringent laws to combat the rising crimes against women. "Crime against women is increasing every day. I second the announcement of PM Modi that a strict law is needed. The period of trial in such cases should be fixed, like it should be 6 months. With that, we can give an exemplary punishment, and the crime can be controlled," Sarma said.

He highlighted the lengthy conviction times currently seen in such cases as a significant barrier to effectively controlling crime against women. By advocating for a more efficient legal process, Sarma aims to create a system where swift justice serves as a powerful deterrent to potential offenders.
