BY A STAFF REPORTER: In a significant move, the union cabinet under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday approved the PM Surya Ghar-Muft Bijli Yojana for installing Solar Panels at one crore rooftops.

Announced on 13th February, the PM Surya Ghar-Muft Bijli Scheme aims to light up one crore houses with 300 units of free electricity every month through an investment of Rs. 75,021 crores.

Moreover, Union Minister Anurag Thakur stated that solar panels will be installed on the rooftops of all central government buildings by 2025 on a priority basis under this scheme.

The Rooftop Solar Programme was initially mentioned by Prime Minister Narendra Modi shortly after the Pran-Pratishtha ceremony of Ram Mandir as the' PM Suryoday Scheme'. Subsequently, it was mentioned in the interim budget presented on 1st February.
