MUMBAI: Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on Friday commended a collaborative effort between political leaders and film actors aimed at supporting Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s mission for a tuberculosis-free India. The initiative brings together prominent figures from both fields to raise awareness about the disease.

"Leaders and actors have come together on one platform for fulfilling PM Modi’s vision for a TB-free India," Shinde said. He also acknowledged the key figures leading the effort, stating, "I congratulate Anurag Thakur, who is the captain of the leaders' team, and Suniel Shetty, who is the captain of the actors' team. This is a great initiative to raise awareness for a crucial social cause."

The event underscores the government's commitment to eradicating tuberculosis, with participation from celebrities and politicians helping to amplify the message. The collaboration aims to engage a wider audience and encourage proactive steps toward TB prevention and treatment.

With India having one of the highest TB burdens globally, the initiative aligns with the government’s ongoing efforts under the National TB Elimination Program (NTEP), which aims to eliminate tuberculosis by 2025. The involvement of public figures is expected to boost awareness and community participation in the fight against the disease.
