BY A STAFF REPORTER: New scenarios are emerging in strife hit Manipur with the Kuki community proposing union territory or territorial council. Speaking exclusively to ANM News, a senior Kuki leader claimed that the “scars of two communities are yet to heal” and it will be difficult for them to stay together. “There are areas which are Kuki dominated and we have proposed that under Indian constitution, a union territory or territorial council be curved out of those areas,” he added.

But a section of the Meitei community leaders are completely opposed to any division of Manipur. “We are working towards a lasting peace in Manipur where two communities can stay together,” a senior minister of N Biren Singh government belonging to Meitei community said. The proposal has been submitted to the union home ministry. Meanwhile a series of meetings have taken place between leaders of both communities and senior home ministry officials over the last couple of weeks in an effort to find peace and stability in Manipur.
