New Delhi: At the Italy-India Business, Science and Technology Forum, Union Minister for Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal outlined India’s balanced and strategic approach to international trade negotiations while reaffirming confidence in the country's thriving startup ecosystem.
“Trade talks proceed when both sides are sensitive to each other’s concerns and requirements,” Goyal said, underlining that India’s trade negotiations are progressing smoothly, with a clear focus on national interest. “All our trade talks are progressing well, in the spirit of India First, and to ensure our pathway to Viksit Bharat @ 2047 in the Amrit Kaal,” he added.
Commenting on the United States granting India a 90-day relief on tariffs, Goyal emphasized that India does not bend under pressure. “We never negotiate on gunpoint. Favourable time constraints motivate quicker talks, but we don’t hurry unless India’s interests are fully secured,” he asserted.
On the role of innovation and entrepreneurship, the Minister praised the momentum of Indian startups. “Indian startups are making us proud in newer and newer areas. I see them focusing on new-age technologies and innovation in the days to come,” he noted, expressing confidence that the ecosystem will further enhance India’s global business presence.
