In a significant development for India's semiconductor manufacturing sector, S Krishnan, Secretary of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), has laid out a detailed roadmap for the industry’s future. Speaking at an event, Krishnan underscored Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision for India's semiconductor industry, which was prominently discussed at the recent SEMICON India conference, the first international event of its kind held in India.
Krishnan emphasized that the Indian government will offer continued support to the semiconductor sector for the next decade, reinforcing the nation's commitment to building a robust and competitive semiconductor industry. This push is seen as essential in positioning India as a critical player in the global semiconductor supply chain. The international conference reflected India’s ambitions in the semiconductor space, drawing attention from leading global companies.
Additionally, Krishnan revealed that the government is currently working on the second phase of the India Semiconductor Mission, which is expected to be rolled out within the next three to four months. This new phase will include fresh policy initiatives aimed at further boosting domestic semiconductor production, attracting international investment, and enhancing India's role in the global market.
The announcement is timely as demand for semiconductors continues to rise globally, especially in industries such as electronics, automotive, and telecommunications. India’s strategic policy framework for the semiconductor sector has already attracted significant interest, and the upcoming phase promises to build on this momentum.
