New Delhi: External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar made strong remarks on Kashmir’s history while speaking at the Raisina Dialogue 2025, calling it the “longest-standing illegal occupation of a territory by another country.”
Jaishankar highlighted how the issue was misrepresented internationally, stating, “The longest-standing illegal occupation of a territory of a country by another pertains to India... What we saw in Kashmir. We went to the UN, and what was an invasion was turned into a dispute.”

His comments reflect India’s longstanding position on Pakistan’s control over parts of Jammu and Kashmir, particularly Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), which New Delhi considers an illegal occupation. The statement is significant as it underscores India’s firm stance on reclaiming its territorial integrity amid ongoing tensions with Pakistan.
The Raisina Dialogue, India’s flagship geopolitical forum, serves as a platform for global leaders to discuss international security and diplomacy. Jaishankar’s remarks align with India’s recent push for stronger narratives on territorial sovereignty, particularly in the wake of renewed border tensions in the region.
