Bhubaneswar, Odisha – In an exciting development for Odisha's art and culture landscape, the state is set to welcome a new regional campus of the prestigious National School of Drama (NSD). Odisha Minister Suryabanshi Suraj announced the establishment, emphasizing the pride and cultural enrichment it brings to the region. “It’s a matter of pride and happiness that the National School of Drama is going to be opened in the state of Odisha,” Suraj stated.
The NSD’s Odisha campus will be the institution's fifth regional campus and aims to offer comprehensive training in various aspects of drama, including direction, acting, scriptwriting, and stage design. Minister Suraj highlighted the institution's potential to enhance local talent, remarking, “The Odia drama industry will get sufficient support from this type of institution in Odisha.”
The decision to open an NSD campus in Odisha reflects the growing recognition of the state’s unique artistic traditions and its contribution to India’s cultural tapestry. The new campus is expected to elevate local talent by providing access to professional-level training and resources, which can be instrumental in boosting the quality and reach of Odia theater.
This initiative aligns with broader efforts to expand cultural education across India, supporting the development of regional art forms and empowering the next generation of performers, directors, and writers. As the campus prepares to open its doors, the local arts community anticipates a new era of growth and professional opportunities, furthering Odisha's prominence in India’s dynamic theater scene.
