New Delhi, April 4 — Defence Minister Rajnath Singh flagged off two major mountaineering expeditions from South Block in New Delhi today, marking a significant moment of adventure, cooperation, and national pride.
The expeditions include a 25-member Indian Army team attempting to summit Mt Everest, and a joint expedition of Indian Army and Nepali Army personnel set to scale Mt Kangchenjunga, the world’s third-highest peak. Additionally, a group of 10 cadets from the National Cadet Corps (NCC) will also attempt to conquer Mt Everest.
Congratulating the climbers, Singh expressed admiration for their courage and determination. “These expeditions reflect the spirit of adventure and resilience that define our armed forces and youth. I wish all teams the very best for their mission and future endeavours,” he said.
The expeditions are not only a testament to the physical endurance and team spirit of the participants but also reinforce the longstanding camaraderie between India and Nepal through military collaboration.
The Indian Army has a rich legacy of high-altitude mountaineering, with such expeditions playing a crucial role in fostering leadership, mental toughness, and international cooperation. Singh’s encouragement highlights the government's support for adventure sports and cross-border friendship through shared challenges.
