Karwar, April 5 — Defence Minister Rajnath Singh will be in Karwar, Karnataka today to participate in a series of significant naval engagements aimed at strengthening India’s maritime capabilities and regional cooperation.

As part of his visit, Singh shall attend the ongoing Naval Commanders’ Conference, a key strategic forum where senior naval leadership discusses critical issues including operational preparedness, force modernization, and future maritime strategy.

In a major boost to India’s western seaboard infrastructure, the Defence Minister will also inaugurate newly developed facilities at the Karwar Naval Base under the ambitious Project Seabird. This project, among the largest naval infrastructure developments in the country, is intended to transform Karwar into one of the most advanced naval hubs in the Indian Ocean region.

Singh is also scheduled to flag off INS Sunayna as part of the Indian Ocean Naval Symposium (IONS) deployment under the SAGAR (Security and Growth for All in the Region) initiative. Onboard the vessel are 44 personnel from nine different navies, symbolizing India’s growing commitment to regional maritime cooperation and diplomacy.
