New Delhi — In a significant development for Indian Haj pilgrims, the Ministry of Minority Affairs (MoMA) announced on Monday that the Saudi Arabian Haj Ministry has reopened the Nusuk Portal for Combined Haj Group Operators (CHGOs), allowing an additional 10,000 pilgrims to register for the 2024 pilgrimage.

The move comes after sustained efforts and intervention by the Indian government. In its statement, MoMA said, “Thanks to the Government’s intervention, the Saudi Haj Ministry has agreed to re-open the Haj (Nusuk) Portal for Combined Haj Group Operators (CHGOs) to accommodate 10,000 pilgrims, based on current availability in Mina.”

The ministry has issued urgent instructions to CHGOs to expedite the registration and travel process without delay, ensuring timely arrangements for all eligible pilgrims. The statement also acknowledged the Saudi authorities’ cooperation, noting that India remains appreciative of “any further gesture” that may allow additional pilgrims beyond the 10,000 quota.

The Haj pilgrimage, a spiritual journey of immense importance for Muslims, draws millions from across the globe every year. The reopening of the portal is expected to bring relief to many Indian applicants who were previously unable to secure a spot.
