Howrah, West Bengal – In a sharp political attack ahead of the festive season, Union Minister and West Bengal BJP president Sukanta Majumdar accused Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and her administration of systematically sidelining the Hindu community in the state.
Speaking to reporters in Howrah, Majumdar said, “Mamata Banerjee is trying in every way to show Hindus that they are second-class citizens. That is why Hindus have to go to court on every Hindu festival.”
His remarks come in the context of legal and administrative hurdles reportedly faced during the organization of Ram Navami processions across the state. Referring to the heavy security measures in place, he added, “The biggest thing is that more than 70 per cent Hindus are there in West Bengal. Despite this, such a large number of police forces have to be deployed in the state to celebrate Ram Navami peacefully. The entire West Bengal should think on this issue.”
Majumdar’s comments highlight a growing flashpoint in West Bengal politics where religious identity, public celebrations, and law-and-order concerns frequently intersect. The BJP has repeatedly accused the Trinamool Congress (TMC) government of appeasement politics and creating a sense of insecurity among the state’s majority community.
