Based on a petition filed by Jamiat Ulama-e-Maharashtra and Halal India Pvt Ltd, the Supreme Court issued a notice to the Union government of Uttar Pradesh. Jamiat Ulama-e-Maharashtra and Halal India Pvt Ltd seeking quashing of FIR and notification wherein manufacture, sale, storage and distribution of halal-certified products were banned in the state of Uttar Pradesh.
