Meghalaya government is committed to take rapid strides in health care and is working towards having specialised medical colleges and hospitals in Shillong and quality health care centres in all districts. ``We are trying to improve technology and ensure quality nursing facilities in the hospitals,'' Ampreen Lyngdoh, health minister, told ANM News over phone.

Coming out of a meeting, Lyngdoh mentioned that the health department is concerned about the increase in HIV positive cases in the state and has decided to make testing compulsory in blood donation camps and other areas of blood transfusion.  ``We are also trying to ensure better facilities in community health centres. We are trying to get good doctors in health care centres across the state,'' she added.
