Delhi: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh emphasized the positive economic impact of rising tourism in India's border regions during a recent address in Delhi. Singh pointed out that from 2020 to 2023, tourism in Ladakh, Sikkim, and Arunachal Pradesh witnessed a 30% increase, contributing significantly to local job creation and economic development.
Singh noted that this surge in tourism is not limited to the Northeastern regions but extends to Kashmir as well, where recent years have seen a notable uptick in visitor numbers. He highlighted how this growth in tourism has been instrumental in boosting local economies and providing new employment opportunities for residents.
"From 2020 till 2023, tourism in Ladakh, Sikkim, and Arunachal Pradesh has increased by 30%. A rise in tourism also has been witnessed in Kashmir in the last few years. This has helped in job creation and improving the local economy," Singh stated.
The Defence Minister also stressed that economic progress in border areas has the potential to bring about numerous positive changes, including reverse migration. "When there is economic development in border areas, we will see many positive outcomes, including reverse migration," Singh added, underscoring the long-term benefits of development in these regions.
