By a Staff Reporter: In 1941, Subhash Chandra Bose was put under house arrest. During this time his house was kept under surveillance. But still Netaji could not be detained. He managed to escape to Germany via Afghanistan and the Soviet Union. A few days before his escape, he avoided meeting the British guards on the pretext of being lonely. He also sported a long beard. On January 17, 1941, he escaped in the late night disguised as a Pathan. Subhash Chandra Bose was accompanied by his nephew Shishir Kumar Bose.
