BY A STAFF REPORTER, POONCH: Three army personnel were martyred in the terrorist attack. Three seriously injured have been admitted to Thannamondi Military Hospital for treatment. An army vehicle was ambushed at Topa Gali on the Bafliaz Rajori road in Bafliaz forest in Surankot tehsil of Poonch district.
According to information, a small Gypsy vehicle of Indian Army's Rashtriya Rifles Battalion was on its way from Buffalo to Dera Gali when a terrorist group ambushed them in their jungle around 3:45 pm on Thursday. Taking advantage of places like jungles, they ambushed and opened fire on vehicles. Six soldiers in the car including the driver were seriously injured. When the injured army jawans started retaliating, the terrorists fled into the forest.
As soon as the attack on the military vehicle was reported, army officials and police SOG teams reached the spot to help. The soldiers trapped in the military vehicle were rescued and the injured soldiers were taken out of the vehicle and taken to Thannamandi Military Hospital for treatment. But the doctors declared three soldiers as martyrs but the remaining three are undergoing treatment in the military hospital.
The army has cordoned off the area. A large number of security forces have been deployed and are monitoring the area. The forces have started a search operation in the forest area to track the terrorists. Rajouri Poonch Range DIG Haseeb Mughal, Poonch SSP Vinay Kumar Sharma and senior citizens of Army and Police reached the spot as soon as the incident was reported.
According to the sources, the military leaders are keeping an eye on the operation in the forest. According to the latest reports, a cordon and search operation is underway in the forest. The area is being cordoned off to nab the terrorists.
