Kolkata: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has scheduled a meeting with a delegation of junior doctors at her residence today at 5 pm, amid ongoing tensions over healthcare issues in the state. This meeting follows a series of protests by the junior doctors who have been vocal about their demands for improved working conditions and safety measures.
One of the doctors involved stated, "We have requested that the meeting be live-streamed to ensure transparency and keep the public informed about what is happening inside. We are unclear about the reasons behind any reluctance to this request." The demand for live streaming reflects the doctors' concerns about maintaining public awareness and accountability regarding their negotiations with the government.
The delegation of junior doctors has put forth five key demands, which they assert are entirely justified. They believe that public support is strong due to their non-political stance and their resistance to government pressures. "The public supports us because we are apolitical and have resisted government pressures," the doctor added.
The doctors have expressed their willingness to negotiate and reach a compromise, but they also warned that if their demands are not adequately addressed, there would be little value in the meeting. “We are open to compromise, but if our demands are not met, then calling us for a meeting seems pointless,” the doctor emphasized.
This meeting is seen as a crucial step in addressing the ongoing disputes between the junior doctors and the government. The outcome of today's discussions could significantly impact the future of healthcare services in the state and the working conditions of junior medical staff.
