GOALZZ: The Annual Inter-School Football Tournament

But never be defeated.”- With this spirit fifteen of the top schools from all over Kolkata participated in the annual Inter-school Football Tournament, Goalzz, hosted by Bhavan’s G K Vidyamandir, Kolkata. The tournament was held over a span of nine days from 24th June 2024 to the 2nd July 2024, in the school ground. The event was inaugurated by Deputy Director, Mrs. Sujata Ghosh, Principal, Mr. Arun Kumar Dasgupta and Vice Principal Mrs. Monami Chatterjee. The tournament started, embodying the spirit of sportsmanship, compassion and incessant hard work.

 Since the beginning of the tournament, it was extremely difficult to distinguish a clear winner, as the teams of all 15 of the participant schools were almost equally able. However, in the system of elimination there’s always a team that comes out victorious at the end. Though the entire tournament was marked by neck to neck competition, the most intense phase of this tournament had to be the semi-finals. There were two matches- one between BGKV and Haryana Vidya Mandir in the first half and the other between St. James’ and St Xavier’s in the second half. At the end of the semi-final, Bhavan’s G K Vidyamandir and St. Xavier’s marched into the finals. 

The finale was held the next day on 2nd July 2024. The day was rainy. The overcast sky well reflected the anxiety and tension that was prevalent in the field. The match started with 3 goals in quick succession from the Xavier’s side. BGKV team also gave tough competition and played equally well. But at the end, the team of St. Xavier’s emerged victorious. BGKV team secured the position of First Runners- up. 
Mr. Arun Kumar Dasgupta, Principal BGKV, rightly said that “winning and losing are parts of the game, it’s all in your perspective.” He highlighted how one should never feel defeated with a loss as that must be taken as a lesson. As it is said- “Failure is the pillar of success”. 

From the first touch to the final cheer, Goalzz celebrates the journey, teamwork, and passion for football. Though the final whistle of Goalzz 2024 has been blown, but the spirit of the beautiful game echoes on.
