Kaliyaganj - Uttar Dinajpur, West Bengal - Juvenile girl murder

By a staff reporter: Concerning the investigation into the tragic death of the murder of a victim girl in Kaliyaganj, Uttar Dinajpur, on April 20-21, 2023, the Hon’ble High Court at Calcutta had been pleased to direct formation of an SIT comprising Shri Upendra Nath Biswas, Fmr. Addl. Dir., CBI, Shri Pankaj Dutta, Fmr. IG, Smt. Damayanti Sen, IPS. 

Two members of the SIT comprising Shri Upendra Nath Biswas, Fmr. Addl. Dir., CBI and Shri Pankaj Dutta, Fmr. IG appeared before Hon’ble Justice Rajasekhar Mantha & submitted that there has been total non cooperation on the part of the State Govt. Further, it was also submitted that the third member of the SIT, a serving police official, Ms. Damayanti Sen, has not cooperated with the other members of the SIT. Ms. Sen has also been transferred by the State Govt from Special CP - I, Kolkata Police to ADG, Training. The Hon’ble Court was pleased to observe that there has been flagrant & gross violation of the order of the Hon’ble High Court of May 11, 2023, whereby the SIT had been formed. The State Govt didn’t even make payment for the visit of the members of the SIT to Kaliyaganj. The appearing members of the SIT submitted that in the facts & due to total non cooperation on the part of the State, it is better if the investigation is transferred to CBI. The State only mentioned that there was an appeal preferred. But, there has been no stay of the order. 

The Home Secretary, West Bengal, has been directed to file a report before the Hon’ble Court on the several issues brought forward, including complete non cooperation by the State Govt. on Thursday, June 15, 2023.
