Staff Reporter, ANM News: Today, the West Bengal Pollution Control Board organized an environmental education program under Mission Life in Jhargram. The event saw participation from students of various schools and was graced by Dr. Kalyan Rudra, Chairman of the West Bengal Pollution Control Board.

In his address, Dr. Rudra highlighted the growing environmental challenges posed by human activities. “Humans have exceeded the natural limits of nature's powers. Unlike other animals, human needs are not limited. The vast demands of humanity are exerting immense pressure on nature. Over the past seven to eight decades, we have witnessed continuous destruction of the environment by humans.”

Dr. Rudra further explained the stages of this environmental degradation. “The first phase involves the loss of soil’s natural character and productive capacity. The second phase concerns water, which is continuously losing its quality as rivers, ponds, and seas become increasingly polluted. The third phase is the degradation of air quality. The fourth phase, observed over the last fifty years, is the gradual extinction of many animal and plant species due to various human activities. In this period, the population of various animals and plants on Earth has decreased by at least 68-70 percent, while the human population has doubled.”

The program aimed to educate students about the importance of environmental conservation and the urgent need to address these pressing issues.
