BY A STAFF REPORTER: Days after the poll violence, the I-Inner Manipur Constituency recorded 81.64% voter turnout at 3:00 PM during the re-polling on April 22, Monday.
The re-polling took place at 11 stations of the I-Inner Manipur Constituency. The Chief Electoral Officer announced fresh polls in the affected constituency on Saturday.
Cases of mob violence were reported in Moirangkampu Sajeb Upper Primary School, Iroisemba Upper Primary School's eastern wing, and Khaidem Makha stations. Moreover, riots took place in Khongman Zone. VVPAT, BUs, and CUs were destroyed by a mob in Iroisemba Upper Primary School's western wing and eastern wing. The incident happened during the first phase of the Lok Sabha elections which took place on April 19, Friday.
The first phase of the Lok Sabha elections was conducted in 102 constituencies across 21 states. Moreover, Tripura recorded the highest voter turnout at 79.90% followed by West Bengal at 77.57%. However, Bihar and Rajasthan recorded the lowest at 47.49% and 50.95% respectively. The second phase is set to begin on April 26. Total voter turnout was recorded at 60%. However, six districts in Nagaland saw almost 0% voter turnout.
