BY A STAFF REPORTER: While addressing a public rally in Cooch Behar, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday slammed the TMC-led West Bengal Government for the Sandeshkhali incident and asserted that the accused will spend the rest of their lives in prison.
PM Modi claimed that only BJP can stop atrocities against women in the state. He also accused the TMC government of trying their best to safeguard the Sandeshkhali accused. PM Modi further claimed that the BJP has resolved to punish the accused individuals in the Sandeshkhali incident and asserted that they will spend the rest of their lives imprisoned. "Naari-shakti (women empowerment) is BJP's priority" PM Modi said.
Earlier today, the Calcutta High Court held the TMC-led West Bengal government entirely responsible for the Sandeshkhali issue.
A village located in West Bengal's North 24 Parganas, Sandeshkhali is witnessing significant clashes and violence following allegations of systematic sexual exploitations and land-grabbing committed by TMC leaders, Shahjahan Sheikh, Shibu Hazara and Uttam Sardar. Shahjahan Sheikh remained absconding since 5th January after an ED team was attacked by a large mob while conducting raids at Shahjahan's residence.
The Enforcement Directorate arrested Sandeshkhali-accused Shahjahan Sheikh during questioning at Basirhat Sub Correctional Home in a PMLA case concerning the ration distribution case on March 30, Saturday. Previously, he was in CBI custody.
