BY A STAFF REPORTER: The Supreme Court on Monday refused to issue a stay on a survey conducted by ASI at Dhar's Bhojshala and Kamal Maula Masjid in Madhya Pradesh.

On a plea against the Madhya Pradesh High Court order directing the Archeological Survey of India to survey the disputed site 'Bhojshala and Kamal Maula Masjid', the Supreme Court issued a notice and refused to stay the survey. Subsequently, the Supreme issued an interim direction and ordered that no action should be taken without its permission based on the outcome of the survey.

Following the orders of the Madhya Pradesh High Court, the Archeological Survey of India started a scientific survey of the Bhojshala and Kamal Maula Masjid on March 22. The Bhojshala is a disputed site between Hindu and Muslim communities, with both claiming the site for their religious significance. Moreover, Muslims are allowed to perform prayers on the site on Fridays while Hindus are allowed to pray on the site on Tuesdays and during Saraswati Puja. As of now, the Archaeological Survey of India protects Bhojshala as a Monument of National Importance.
