In Kolkata, West Bengal, TMC leader Kunal Ghosh addressed the media regarding the recent mass resignation of senior doctors from RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. He criticized the doctors for what he termed "politics of blackmail," accusing them of harassing patients during a critical time.
He stated, "...The government is very responsible and tolerant... The doctors are doing politics of blackmail and harassing patients. The government will do what it has to do." He further claimed that the mass petition signed by the doctors was illegal, asserting that they should submit individual resignations rather than resigning collectively.
Emphasizing the need for accountability, Ghosh insisted that the government should accept all resignations and move forward with new recruitments. "Many capable doctors are waiting in line," he noted, suggesting that fresh talent could better serve the community.
He expressed concern about the impact of such actions on the local economy, particularly during the Durga Puja festival and amid ongoing flood situations in the state. Ghosh referred to the current environment as "anarchy," suggesting that the actions of the doctors reflect a culture of threats and blackmail, particularly following recent developments involving CBI charges. His comments highlight the ongoing tensions between the government and medical professionals in West Bengal.
