BY A STAFF REPORTER: Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami spoke on the recent Haldwani violence on 9th February. He informed that the 'anti-encroachment' drive was underway following the Court's orders. Subsequently, violence broke out in the region.
Furthermore, he stated that the administration was attacked with petrol bombs, stones, etc. There were incidents of Arson as well. Dhami asserted that the law will take stringent actions against perpetrators who ignited violence in Haldwani. He also informed that visual evidence of the whole incident is being recovered. Moreover, those who vandalized public and government properties will be made to pay for it. He extended his support to the affected people.
After an Anti-encroachment drive, violence erupted in Haldwani's Banbhoolpura area. The illegal constructions of 'Madrasa' in the Anti-encroachment drive led to violent clashes, stone-pelting, arson, and vandalism. Reportedly, four individuals were killed and more than 100 police officers were injured. Responding to the violence, the administration imposed a curfew with a 'shoot-on-sight' order.
