Aston Villa in early seasons were a team who used to flirt with relegation. Their aim was merely to stay in the premier league. However in the last 2 seasons, they have been performing extremely well. Last season, 2022-23, they were also flirting with relegation and had lost 3-0 to Fulham, when they decided to sack Steven Gerrard. Then they brought in former Arsenal manager Unai Emery. That proved to be a master stroke as they went on a good run of form, and ultimately finished in 7th position in the league table.
This season, despite a 5-1 opening day thrashing at Newcastle United, they have managed to carve out consistent results with victories over Chelsea, Tottenham, title favourites Manchester City and Arsenal. With these victories, they have demonstrated their fearlessness while facing top sides. They are currently 2nd in the premier league, ahead of Liverpool and Manchester City. It remains to be seen whether they can put up a charge for the title and claim a shock title win when the premier league season concluded in May. On this note, they can if they can remain consistent and not blow hot and cold.
