She was born into a Hindu family in the Taran district of Punjab. She was known as Bijji or Mataji. She was arrested by the British police on August 26, 1942, for participating in the Indian independence movement. But she did not give up. Satyavati Devi hoisted the tricolor flag in the midst of the British police in Lahore jail.

Her husband, Lala Achint Ram, was known as the 'Gandhi of Punjab'. She joined Vinova Bav's 'Bhudan' movement with him. Not only that, but he also fed Bhagat Singh with his own hands. A year before her death, i.e., in 2009, the then President Pratibha Patil honored Satyavati Devi with a national honor. This noble woman breathed her last on October 26, 2010.
