Sagarpur Sarbajanin Durgotsab Committee Refuses Government Grant

BY A STAFF REPORTER, DASPUR: The Sagarpur Sarbajanin Durgotsab Committee of Ghatal sub-division has decided not to accept government grant of Rs 85,000 for durga puja to protest the RG Kar incident and demand speedy trial of the culprits. This is the first such incident in West Midnapore district.

Sagarpur Sarbajanin Durgotsab Committee under the management of Sagarpur villagers under Daspur police station has entered its 46th year this year. The theme of this year's puja committee is 'Matir Ghare Maa'. It has also been reported that their total budget for this year's puja will be around Rs 8 lakhs.  

A member of the Sagarpur Sarbajanin Durgotsab Committee said, "If the real culprits of the RG Kar incident are punished on the day they are punished, we will reconsider our decision. " The Sagarpur Sarbajanin Durgotsab Committee had conducted Durga Puja without any donation in the past. So we should not have any difficulty. ''   In this case, it is to be noted that there has been a storm of protest across the country today over the rape and murder of a young doctor. The common people have condemned this heinous incident. There has been a storm of protest across Bengal.
