BY A STAFF REPORTER: In a recent statement, BJP MP Sudanshu Trivedi on Wednesday asserted that India must ensure the security of persecuted minorities in the neighboring countries as it is the only secular country among its neighbors.

Moreover, Trivedi extended his support to the newly implemented Citizenship Amendment Act (Rules) 2024 and maintained that India is committed to providing proper security to the religiously persecuted minorities of Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Bangladesh. Furthermore, Trivedi slammed the opposition parties and a few state governments for opposing the CAA. He further stated that citizenship is a subject listed in the Union List not in the State or Concurrent list. Sudhanshu Trivedi argued that if any state stands against CAA and refuses to implement it then they are directly attacking the Constitution and trying to tear it down.

The subject of Citizenship comes under the Union list as per the 7th Schedule of the Indian Constitution. Therefore, it bestows the power to amend or make laws related to the Citizenship of India upon the Central Government.

The Ministry of Home Affairs announced the rules of the Citizenship Amendment Act (2019). Furthermore, the newly implemented CAA will be called the 'Citizenship Amendment Act (Rules) 2024'. The Act aims to grant Indian Citizenship to the refugees and migrants belonging to Hindu, Sikh, Jain, Parsi, Buddhist, Jain, and Christian communities who arrived in India before 31st December 2014 and faced persecution in their homelands.
