Hyderabad: BJP leader Ramchander Rao on Tuesday raised concerns over the 42% reservation for Other Backward Classes (OBCs) in Telangana, accusing both the Congress and BRS of misleading people by introducing reservation-related bills without legal clarity.

"The Congress and the BRS have been misleading the people of Telangana by introducing bills for reservation. The BRS Government introduced the Muslim reservation bill, delaying the process of tribal reservation up to 10% according to population ratio... We welcome the 42% reservation, but have they taken any legal advice?..." Rao said.

He further questioned the government’s intentions and seriousness, asking whether Muslims under the Backward Classes (BCE) category would now receive double benefits under the new policy. “If they are serious about this, what about the 4% reservation promised to the Muslim BCE? And will they now get double benefits?” he asked.

Criticism of Karnataka’s 4% Quota for Muslim Contractors

Rao also opposed the Karnataka Cabinet’s decision to approve 4% reservation for Muslim contractors in government contracts, calling it illegal and politically motivated.

"The quota system in contracts is illegal because the contracts should be taken up by professionals... Giving reservation only for the sake of vote-bank politics is not right, and BJP opposes it," he stated.

The Karnataka government’s move has drawn mixed reactions, with supporters calling it a step towards inclusive economic participation while critics argue it is an unconstitutional move favoring one religious group.
