Chennai, Tamil Nadu: As the Congress gears up for its much-anticipated Congress Working Committee (CWC) meeting, BJP leader CR Kesavan has launched a scathing attack on the party’s legacy and leadership. Speaking to reporters in Chennai, Kesavan dismissed the significance of the session, claiming that the Congress has long deviated from its foundational ideals.

“It is said that this Congress session is happening after 64 years, the last one happened in 1961,” Kesavan said. “During this time, the Congress has degenerated into a den of corruption, peddling their dangerous, poisonous, and communal politics of polarisation.”

He accused the Congress of exploiting the legacies of national icons such as Mahatma Gandhi and Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, despite allegedly undermining their principles. “The party has always gone against the ideals of both these icons, and now they are preaching them,” he said.

Kesavan also recalled the long-standing BJP allegation that the Congress refused to honour Sardar Patel with the Bharat Ratna. “It is the same Congress that denied giving Bharat Ratna to Sardar Patel,” he stated, adding that the party’s attempts to reclaim moral ground ahead of the session ring hollow.

His remarks come at a time when Congress leaders have been touting the session as “historic,” aimed at rejuvenating the party and addressing what they call an atmosphere of despair in the country. However, the BJP appears determined to counter Congress’s narrative, accusing it of hypocrisy and historical neglect.
