Contribution of Rani Lakshmi Bai-Mangal Pandey in the War of Independence
India's first war of independence took place in 1857 to drive out the British. In our country it is also called the Sepoy Mutiny and the Mutiny of 1857. But it was India's first attempt against the tyranny of the British and to breathe free air.
The rebellion is considered to be the reason for the rebellion because the cartridges used in Enfield rifles had to be cut with the teeth before being inserted into the gun. Indian soldiers associated with the East India Company believed that pig or cow fat was applied to the cartridge. It was this spark that ignited the fire of mutiny among the sepoys against the British.
